Jesus Christ is a central figure in Christianity, believed by Christians to be the Son of God and the savior of humanity. According to the Christian faith, Jesus was born in Bethlehem to the Virgin Mary and Joseph. He lived a human life, preaching and teaching about God's love and the way to salvation.
The purpose of Jesus Christ on earth, according to Christian belief, was to offer redemption and salvation to humanity by dying on the cross for the sins of all people. Christians believe that Jesus' death and resurrection offer the gift of eternal life to those who believe in him.
According to the Christian faith, Jesus was arrested, tried, and sentenced to death by crucifixion by the Roman authorities, under pressure from the Jewish religious leaders. He was crucified at Golgotha, outside of Jerusalem, and died on the cross. However, Christians believe that Jesus rose from the dead three days later, demonstrating his power over death and sin, and that he ascended into heaven 40 days after his resurrection.
